Sample Devotion at a Ladies Tea

"Steeped in Grace"

Please Note: My speeches are individualized for each event based on the leading from The Holy Spirit and suggestions about the theme and timing of the speech from the event host.

Good afternoon, ladies!

Isn’t it wonderful to slow down for a moment and enjoy the simple pleasure of tea?

I love the ceremony of it—the warmth of the cup, the aroma, and the quiet fellowship.

As I was sitting with my own cup this morning, preparing for today, I started thinking about the process of making tea. It’s actually a perfect metaphor for our lives in Christ.

Think about it: To get the best flavor out of a tea bag, it has to be put into hot water.  Now, none of us enjoy the "hot water" of life—the trials, the pressures, the busy  schedules, or the difficult seasons that seem to come out of nowhere.

But in my own life, I’ve found that it is in those hot-water moments—when I am forced to be still and rely on God—that the sweetest flavor of my faith comes out.

James 1:2-3 tells us to: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.”

God uses the heat of our trials to "steep" us in His grace. He wants to bring out the perseverance, kindness, and love that He has already placed within us. Without the heat, we might remain dry, unopened, and untapped.

But there is a second, even better part of this analogy.  When we are overwhelmed by the heat, where do we turn?

Psalm 23:2 says, “He leads me beside quiet waters.”  When our spirits are weary, sitting with Jesus is like taking a quiet, warm cup of tea with our best friend. He doesn't bring the heat to punish us; He allows it to mature us, and then He sits with us in the midst of it to comfort us.

So, as you enjoy your tea today, I want to leave you with three reminders:

1. Don’t fear the heat. When life feels intense, remember that God is using it to bring out your best flavor, preparing you for something purposeful.

2. Take time to steep. True joy isn't found in rushing, but in taking time to "taste and see that the Lord is good" (Psalm 34:8).

3. Your cup can overflow. When we allow God to fill our cups with His Word and His love, we have more than enough to share with others through our kindness and fellowship.

Let’s pray together.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for this wonderful gathering of women. Thank You that  You are the God of comfort, who meets us in the busyness. As we sip our tea, Lord, remind  us to steep in Your Word. Bring out the best in us, even when life feels hot. Fill our cups  until they overflow with Your grace, so that we can pour love into the lives of everyone we  meet. We ask this in the sweet and precious name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
